    Amazing Power in such a Compact Tool

    I finally decided that I wanted a new drill.... I decided I'd jump into the DeWalt line while they're introducing a brand new line. Amazon was one of the first people to carry it and I ordered this in the beginning of September 2011.

    Anyways, I LOVE that DeWalt finally went to a slide style battery. Kudos for the battery not falling out by accident anymore. Having the option of the 1.5ah batteries that it comes with is nice as they charge quickly and are compact.

    The Drill is snappy and I love it. It spins with so much more power and RPM's than my existing drill.
    This thing is amazing and cuts through whatever I'm drilling quickly and without hangup. The fact that the light comes on automatically and shuts off with delay automatically is also a very nice touch for both tools.

    I immediately fell in love with the look and feel of the DeWalt impact driver upon examination. I also liked the way it felt upon start and stop of the tool, just like the drill, a sharp start and stop and durable feel. I also noticed it has way more RPMS than my panasonics, which meant I was screwing hinge screws into doors that much quicker. They are strong and they are comfortable.

    Oh, and shout to Amazon and Amazon Prime for having overnight shipped to me for $3.99!! I LOVE AMAZON PRIME.

    Power Under Pressure

    Did a 12'x12' deck support restructuring after wood rot failure. Original had 2 sets of (8) 2"x6"x6' beams supporting 12' trex. Removal was worse than new install as (1000) 3" wood screws were rusted in place. New redwood replaced all old boards with new 6" hangers requiring (4) 3" wood screws and (4) 1/4"x2" anglers each side of supports(24) 2"x6"x6'.

    Installing 1500+ screws was a cinch with the Bosch 1/2" cordless drill with slim batteries in 100+ degree heat. When one battery stopped working, slide in the next for about 30 minutes of work while recharging other battery, just enough time to get a cold drink. Whatever speed/torque used the drill kept going...been using it ever since.

    Speed chuck worked terrific, must have used it a few hundred times undoing chewed bits and replacing with nut drivers. Forward reverse switch worked every time. Trigger speed sensitive but mastery comes with familiarity. I banged the hell out of this thing and didn't even dent it.

    Did not fail to perform one time. Great Power Tool! THANK YOU BOSCH!!! D-I-Y project saved me about $2000!

    Great Bang for the BuckThis combo tool set is perfect for around the house duties, nice and light for easy use, but with plenty of power for any task. Wouldn't recommend for a industrial user as the tools are a bit "plasticy" and not likely to stand up to heavy abuse, ie. drops from ladders, etc.

    Battery life was good, close to an hour of run time, while the charger fully charges the next battery within 30 mins. Very happy with this purchase as similar tool sets run more than 3 times the price of this one.

      After reading the mixed reviews on Amazon, I was pretty hesitant about buying this saw. I originally had been considering getting a 10" slider due to cost, but when DeWalt offered the 12" slider with a free work stand, it was worth taking the risk on trying it.

      I have been extremely pleased with the saw. First off, to debunk some of the negative reviews; you should never...ever... expect any type of precision power tool to be within spec's out of the box. Too much can happen to it during shipping to knock it out of spec. I recently bought a high end cabinet saw for over $3000, and it was out of spec upon arrival, despite being set at the factory. I anticipate calibrating any tool I buy and checking how accurate it is.

      Now, with all that said, my saw was dead on accurate out of the box! I followed all the alignment procedures in the owners/instruction manual (reading instructions is usually not in a male's DNA, but over the years I have found that I have a lot less problems with stuff if I read the provided manuals), and didn't need to adjust anything with the exception of the miter scale pointer, which was off by one degree in the detents. That took all of 20 seconds to correct.

      I have read some peculiar grips on this saw. After using it, I surmise a good portion of them come from the DW718 not being like the old saw that was just replaced.

      This is my first 12" compound slider, so other than using someone else's saw here and there; I had no preconceived notions on what the perfect tool would be. I can say this, the DW718 does exactly what is advertises it does. I did a bunch of research, and watched a bunch of video reviews, and again, most of the grips were of a personal nature. Knobs too small, slides are stiff, too much defection in the head, etc. OK, but you have to ask yourself, "in comparison to what?"

      I purposely tried to deflect the head at the extent of the rail travel. It does deflect, but I had to but some elbow grease behind it to do so. When I didn't try to defect the head, it didn't deflect. So I told myself "self, don't try to defect the saw head and let the tool do the work" and so far I haven't had any problems.
      I do have a few personal observations to share. Take them for what they are worth to you:
      • The DeWalt DW723 miter saw stand it nice, and it has it's uses, but if you are cutting some big stock, the stand does wobble just a touch, which is translated to the saw. For dead on accurate work, I would recommend placing the saw on a more stable counter or tabletop.
      • The included blade works well for framing. I recommend getting a better quality blade for fine work
      • The DeWalt L.E.D. work light accessory is "Way-Cool" and worth the money. I have a couple shop tools with lasers, and the word "Laser" leads you to think "pin point accuracy. It works better in shade than direct sunlight (after all, it is a shadow), and it is less expensive than the laser.

      The OTC 1533 Racing Jack Pack contains one OTC 1532 Aluminum Racing Jack, OTC 1532 2-Ton Capacity Aluminum Racing Jack, and one OTC 1582 pair of two ton aluminum jack stands. The product description does not make that clear so I went to the OTC tools website and did a search for the 1533 combination before making my purchase.

      Amazon is currently selling this OTC 1533 combination pack for less than the cost of the OTC 1532 jack alone. Both the jack and stands are well made and will arrive in a single carton. If you are interested in this combination pack I would suggest you read the reviews for the OTC 1532 jack and look at the jack stands as a no cost bonus. This combination was just what I was looking for at a very competitive price.

      This Dewalt cordless Hammer Drill is the best hand tool I have bought in a while. It replaced a dewalt and has performed well. 
      I put it to work building walls in a barn the first week I got it. I would reccommend it to any do-it yourselfer like me.
